There are times when life pulls you into such agony that you lose sight of your former completeness and the fact that you had a name before the war and the silence.
As both the author and the subject, this work challenges me. A visitor trapped in their own skin, haunted by memories they didn’t choose and engaged in battles they didn’t start, is a portrait of fractured identity.
A history of trauma, survival, and rebirth is charted by the ink-black shadows and gold cracks.
Anyone who has reached their lowest point, made mistakes, or been too scared to rise again can relate to “I Forgot I Had a Name.”
I have been many things: wounded, lost, ashamed. But I am not my past — I am the architect of what comes next. For those who are finding the strength to return to the light, this is a subdued hymn – Calethorne on the artwork and his subjective connection.
